for maintaining over 100 servers distributed between multiple
datacenters and supervising systems and database administration staff
during daily operations as well as for off-hours downtime maintenance.
Quickly explored and familiarized myself with existing systems, custom
built software, and database schema in order to understand them well
enough to troubleshoot problems as they occur and identify components
that would best benefit from increased capacity or redundancy.
Standardized Linux operating systems on CentOS providing an enterprise
level operating system with mature lifecycle at no cost. Purchased,
installed, and configured additional racks and servers to support rapid
growth. Planned and led move of all servers from legacy network racks
to newly purchased datacenter suite focusing on minimizing system
downtime (move was completed within downtime window). Implemented SSL
VPN solution to provide simple, encrypted, secure access to the
corporate network. Setup parallel testing/development cluster and
database so development could avoid impacting the production
environment. Setup multiple system clusters for load balancing traffic
and providing redundancy. Implemented high-availability solutions for
critcal components (shared storage, web servers, etc.) Designed
disaster recovery site and implemented methods for failing-over between
the primary and backup sites. Performed off-hours system maintenance
frequently in addition to working standard hours in order to ensure the
highest availability. Administered multiple MySQL servers including
handling user creation, permissions, routine table maintenance, schema
changes, performance analysis, query optimization, and failure
recovery. Performed VoIP interop testing with multiple carriers,
troubleshot and corrected VoIP-related issues. Replaced aging office
networking equipment with new Cisco switches and routers to leverage
their stability and configurability. Deployed Zimbra groupware product
to provide centralized e-mail and groupware administration. Served as
liaison between operations staff, systems & database administration
staff, and development staff to determine which staff was best suited
to address a given issue. |
